'All your perfects' by Colleen Hoover
(This review includes spoilers)
I didn't think it was possible to empathise with a situation you had never experience... that was until I read this novel.
From excitement to heartache, Hoover takes her audience through every human emotion through the course of this story. The constant change between setting and time in each chapter was highly effective in exacerbating the emotions as the storyline progressed.
It was so difficult and heart-wrenching to read Quinn and Graham's happy past when you were so hyper-aware of the difficulties they were tackling (or struggling to tackle) in the present. It was even harder reading Quinn's internal dialogue and emotional distance that stood stubbornly between an otherwise soulmate bond.
But Graham's love was demonstrated through his patience and perseverance, which made their love story truly admirable. From the metaphor of the fortune cookies to the sweetness of the love letters, Hoover entrances the reader with cliché yet heart-warming 'happily ever after'. Yet what makes this story impactful, is the exploration of real and difficult human experiences, such as infertility, anxiety and depression, that make it emotional and relatable.
Quinn and Graham demonstrate that true love is tested in times of difficulty but is equally strengthened by it too.
